Harry Brook was named Player of the Match for his 317 runs.
Pakistan suffered a humiliating loss by an innings and 47 runs to England in the first Test of the three-match series that was played in Multan. This is the first time in history any team has lost a Test by an innings despite scoring over 500 runs in the first innings.
Pakistan had opted to bat first after winning the toss and posted 556 runs. Abdullah Shafique, Shan Masood, and Salman Ali Agha made centuries for the hosts. However, what came afterwards was a proper thrashing of the highest quality as after Zak Crawley (78) and Ben Duckett (84), Joe Root, and Harry Brook went on to add a record 454 runs together.
Joe Root made 262 runs, his 35th Test ton, and in the process went past Alastair Cook as the highest all-time Test run-getter for England. On the other hand, Harry Brook continued his love for Tests in Pakistan and stroked his 4th ton in as many matches.
Brook went on to score 317 runs in 322 balls as England posted 823/7d. This was the first time any team had scored over 800 runs in an innings against Pakistan and Pakistan.
Pakistan was then asked to bat in the final session on day four and was swiftly reduced to 152/6. Salman Agha and Aamer Jamal did make half-centuries, but they only delayed the inevitable. Finally, England wrapped up Pakistan’s innings for 220 runs and won the Test by an innings and 47 runs.
This was the fifth time Pakistan lost a Test after scoring 500 plus runs in 1st innings of a Test. This was the 9th win for England despite conceding 500-plus runs in the first innings of a Test. Shan Masood has now lost all 6 Tests he has captained Pakistan in.
The next Test will be played in Rawalpindi from October 15 onwards.
The cricket fraternity was all praises for the dominant win by England over Pakistan on social media.
