Iyer is participating in the Irani Cup 2024 match in Lucknow, playing for Mumbai v Rest of India.
After being asked to bat by ROI captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mumbai lost their top three batters quickly. Prithvi Shaw (4), Ayush Mhatre (14), and Hardik Tamore (0) didn’t do much with the bat.
But then Ajinkya Rahane (97) 100 plus runs with Shreyas Iyer (57) and then Sarfaraz Khan. While Rahane fell three short of a brilliant hundred, Sarfaraz Khan had guided Mumbai to a good total after completing a dominating century.
Meanwhile, on Day 1, Shreyas Iyer was seen doing a wonderful gesture for the children of the laborers who were working in the Ekana Stadium.
As the heat rose in Lucknow, a moving video emerged showing Iyer pausing from his practice session to provide cold drinks to the children of laborers working on the Ekana site. The incident apparently occurred on Monday, while Iyer was practicing alongside Prithvi Shaw.
According to Dainik Bhaskar, Iyer saw children standing near the boundary ropes in the sweltering heat. Without hesitation, the cricketer approached the drinks trolley, tucked a cold drink bottle beneath his shirt, and moved toward the children.
When asked by a reporter about his gesture, Iyer humbly responded, “You can see for yourself how hot it is,” acknowledging the plight of the children who were enduring the heat.
