Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian pacer, has regained the no.1 spot in the ICC Test bowling rankings update on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. This update came after the second Test between India and Bangladesh that concluded in Kanpur on Tuesday.

India defeated Bangladesh by 7 wickets in two days’ time, after two days were rained off.

Thanks to his superlative performance in the two Tests with the ball, Jasprit Bumrah re-claimed his no.1 Test bowler spot. He overtook teammate R Ashwin and became the premier Test bowler in the world only for the second time in his career.

Ashwin claimed five wickets of his own during that match and is only one point behind Bumrah's rating of 870 points.

Bangladesh will be encouraged by the progress achieved by Mehidy Hasan (up four spots to 18th) and veteran spinner Shakib Al Hasan (up five places to 28th).

Sri Lanka spinner Prabath Jayasuriya established a new career-high rating as he advanced one position to tie seventh on the Test bowling standings following his Player of the Series exploits against New Zealand.

Coming to the batting rankings, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who won the Player of the Match for his twin fifties in India’s Kanpur Test win, reached a new career-high rating when jumping two places to third spot in new update.

Virat Kohli was back in the top 10 of ICC Test batting rankings after he gained six places to move to sixth overall following scores of 47 and 29* against Bangladesh.

Joe Root and Kane Williamson hold onto their no.1 and no.2 rankings in Test batting rankings. Sri Lanka right-hander Kamindu Mendis moved to 11th spot, his career-best ranking. India's Ravindra Jadeja maintained his no.1 spot in ICC all-rounders rankings in Tests.
