Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma dominated the opposition bowling as openers for the Indian team in white-ball cricket. The duo opened for India from 2013-2022 in ODIs and T20Is and won India numerous games.

The Rohit-Dhawan combo scored 5148 runs in 115 ODIs while opening the innings. They averaged 52.55 and their highest partnership was 210. They had 18 hundred-plus partnerships and 15 fifty partnerships.

Dhawan, who continues to play domestic cricket in the Indian Premier League, has been overlooked by the national selectors for more than a year. His final match for India was an ODI against Bangladesh in December 2022.

He has played 34 Tests, 167 One-Day Internationals, and 68 Twenty20 Internationals for India, amassing 2315, 6793, and 1759 runs, respectively. He also captained India in a handful of ODIs and T20Is.

Recalling the days when he used to open the batting for India alongside Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan shared some interesting little anecdotes to showcase his camaraderie with the India captain.

"I have opened with him for 8-10 years, so I have a strong bond with him. He is a gem of a person. Use bada achha lagta tha jab mai ek gana gaata tha pitch pe (he used to like it a lot whenever I sang one particular song), 'putt jattan de bulaonde bakre'.

So, he would look at me and then sing the same song. It's one moment that is repeated often. He remembered a couple of lines from the song, which he used to sing and then laugh,” Dhawan said on Star Sports.
