India’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma made an appearance at Wimbledon on Friday (July 12), relishing the opportunity to watch the semi-final matches featuring Carlos Alcaraz against Daniil Medvedev, and Novak Djokovic against Lorenzo Musetti.
Rohit, who is an ardent tennis fan, expressed his delight at being able to attend the marquee event during his time in London.
"I am a big tennis fan. Obviously, since I was in London, there was a good opportunity for me to catch up on the semi-finals. I was lucky enough to get in there and watch an exciting game," Rohit told Star Sports after witnessing Alcaraz's triumph over Medvedev.
When asked about his prediction for the second semi-final, Rohit said Novak Djokovic would likely emerge victorious. However, he decided against picking a clear favourite for the Wimbledon final.
"I think it is going to be Alcaraz and Djokovic, that's my guess, and I don't want to say who is going to win (in the final). I would say, 'May the best player win.' I don't want to pick sides because I myself have been in that kind of position where people are picking names or sides. Whoever plays well, I am sure, will win the game," the Indian skipper remarked.
Rohit Sharma led the Indian team from the front in the recently held T20 World Cup, which the Men in Blue won by beating South Africa in the final at Barbados.
The highlight of Rohit’s performance was his brutal knocks against Australia (92 off 41) and England (57 off 39) in the Super 8 and the semi-final, respectively.
Rohit finished the tournament with 257 runs from eight innings at a strike rate of 156.70, including three half-centuries.
