Multan Sultans will lock horns against Islamabad United in the final of the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2024 (PSL 2024). The final is scheduled to take place on Monday (March 18) in Karachi.

Mohammad Rizwan’s Multan Sultans topped the PSL 2024 points table with seven wins out of 10 matches in the league stage. They then defeated Peshawar Zalmi by seven wickets in the first Qualifier to make it into the final of the tournament.

This is the fourth consecutive time Multan Sultans have qualified for the PSL final and if they win the title, can become only the third team after Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars to win the PSL twice. The Mohammad Rizwan-led franchise had won their maiden title in 2021 before losing the final against the Qalandars in 2022 and 2023.

However, controversy ensued as videos have gone viral on social media of journalists walking out and boycotting the Multan Sultans’ press conference ahead of the final. The journalists allegedly boycotted the pre-final presser after the Sultans’ media manager misbehaved with them.

As per reports, the journalists wanted the captain or any other senior player for the press conference. Assistant coach Abdul Rehman had been brought in to address the media.

However, the team management declined their request and also told them to leave if they did not want to ask questions to him. A journalist can be seen talking to the media manager after which he begins to walk off.

"It's ok, those who don't want to sit can go," the media manager can then be heard saying in Urdu.

The National Stadium in Karachi has been in the news this season for poor crowd turn out, particularly during the second eliminator between Islamabad and Peshawar Zalmi. This stands in contrast to what was witnessed in other venues with games in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan being played in packed stadiums.
