Recently the whole country was in the grip of the Ram Mandir ceremony which was inaugurated on January 22, 2024, by PM Narendra Modi in Ayodhya. India cricketer Mohammad Shami shared his thoughts on the same and chants on ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

In a world fraught with religious tensions and divisive narratives, Shami's words resonate profoundly, urging for a spirit of acceptance and mutual respect across religious lines. Shami claimed that there are some people in every religion who hate the people of a particular religion.

"In every religion, you will come across 5 to 10 people who won't like the person from the opposite religion. I don't have any objection against it,” Shami told News18 in an interview.

He also touched on the issue of the ‘Sajda’ controversy involving him during the ODI World Cup 2023. People from his religion alleged that Shami was not courageous enough to perform Sajda, a type of salutation to Allah after taking a wicket during a match. Shami claimed that he has no problem with such kind of criticism.

"Like how the topic of Sajda came up... If Ram Mandir is being built, then what's the problem in saying Jai Shri Ram... say it 1000 times. If I want to say Allahu Akbar then I will say it 1000 times... what difference does it make?" Shami added.
