India batter Tilak Varma smashed a 25-ball 50 against Bangladesh in the ongoing Asian Games as the Men in Blue qualified for the gold medal match in the men’s cricketing event on October 6, 2023.

Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and chose to bowl first. For Bangladesh, Jaker Ali (24*) and Parvez Hossain Emon (23) were the top scorers as they posted 96/9 in 20 overs. Sai Kishore continued his good form with 3/12, while Washington Sundar took 2/15.

In reply, last game’s centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal got out for a duck. But Ruturaj Gaikwad (40*) and Tilak Varma (55*) took India to the finish line in 9.2 overs and won the match by 9 wickets. With this win, India is assured of another medal in the cricket event at Asian Games.

The Mumbai Indians star, who made his T20I debut for India against the West Indies in August this year, came out to bat at No. 3 and, together with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, added 97* runs for the second wicket.
