India batter Prithvi Shaw on Wednesday (August 9) shattered records as he slammed a dazzling double hundred while playing for Northamptonshire against Somerset in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup 2023 at the County Ground, Northampton.

In what was his third game for the Northamptonshire, Shaw brought up his maiden century for the side off 81 deliveries. After reaching the three-figure mark, he went berserk and cracked his second ton in double-quick time, off just 129 deliveries.

Shaw’s previous double hundred in List A cricket came while playing for Mumbai against Puducherry in the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Trophy. The right-hander had struck an unbeaten 227 back then.

Prithvi Shaw bettered that knock and eventually got out in the 50th over of the innings after slamming 244 off 153 balls, including 28 fours and 11 sixes. Thanks to his whirlwind knock, Northamptonshire racked up a colossal 415/8 on the board.

With this innings, the 23-year-old also broke numerous List A records. He surpassed Ollie Robinson's record of the highest individual score of 206 registered in the One-Day Cup last year.

Shaw’s 244 is the sixth highest score in List-A cricket, fourth highest by an Indian and the second-highest ever on English soil, behind AD Brown’s 268.

He also became just the second Indian after Rohit Sharma and fourth overall to record multiple List A double hundreds. While Rohit has three ODI double tons to his name, Ali Brown and Travis Head have hit two double centuries each in List A cricket.
