Bairstow showed off that he was in the crease as Australian fielders ran to change ends.
Infamously, Bairstow was stumped by Alex Carey on day 5 of the second Test at Lord’s after he wandered out of his crease after leaving a bouncer from Cameron Green. Thinking that the over was finished, the England keeper went gardening on the pitch and Carey hit the stumps with an underarm throw.
The Australians appealed and the TV umpire was consulted, who after checking the replays, adjudged Bairstow out, much to the chagrin of the English crowd at Lord’s, who loudly booed the Australian team, despite them going on to win the Test by 43 runs and go 2-0 up in the five-Test series.
In a video shared on social media, the right-handed batter can be seen putting his bat back in the crease on Day 1 of the ongoing third Ashes Test at Headingley, Leeds on Thursday, July 6.
In the 14th over of the England innings, Mitchell Marsh beat Bairstow on the inside edge and the batter stood his ground on the last ball and ensured that the ball was no longer in play before he left the crease to chat with his batting partner Joe Root.
He also made sure that the fielders from the Australian slip cordon saw him place his bat inside the crease.
