Zalmi captain Babar refused to make any comments on his former PSL franchise Karachi Kings.
Peshawar captain Babar Azam addressed the media and discussed his team’s performance after they were routed by Islamabad United by 6 wickets as they chased down 157-run target inside 15 overs.
During the conference, a journalist asked Babar Azam about his ex-franchise Karachi Kings, who out of their five appearances in the PSL, have managed to win just one match and are placed 5th in the PSL 8 points table.
Babar’s reply had a strong resemblance to India’s Rohit Sharma’s answer to a Pakistani journalist’s question during the 2019 ODI World Cup.
Referring to Karachi’s situation at this stage of the tournament, a reporter questioned Babar Azam about the improvements the franchise could make in an effort to alter the equation.
Babar refused to make any comment and replied: “Am I their coach? Then, why are you asking me questions about them? Let’s talk about our game.”
This answer was very close to when a Pakistan journalist had asked Rohit Sharma what advice he would give to Pakistani team after the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side was defeated soundly by India with Rohit scoring 140 runs.
A smiling Rohit Sharma told the reporter, “I will tell you if I become the Pakistan coach. What can I say now?”
Babar Azam had made 75* in 68 balls as Peshawar made 156/8 against United in Karachi in the 12th match of the PSL 2023. But then Rahmanullah Gurbaz went all guns blazing and smashed 62 runs in 31 balls and Rassie van der Dussen made 42 runs as Islamabad reached the target in 14.5 overs only.
