Karunaratne had to be rushed to the hospital after getting hit on his mouth.
It happened during the match between Kandy Falcons and Galle Gladiators on Wednesday.
The incident took place during the fourth over of the first innings when Nuwanido Fernando smashed a fuller delivery outside off over covers. Karunaratne was going for a catch over his shoulder and the ball hit him straight on his mouth despite his hands cupped to take the catch.
While he completed the catch successfully, he was later seen bleeding from his mouth.
According to Sri Lanka's national newspaper Daily Mirror, the allrounder was later taken to the hospital and it was revealed that he had lost four of his teeth as a result of the impact of the ball on his mouth and immediate surgery was conducted.

The Falcons did register a comfortable victory in the game. Gladiators posted 121/8 on board in 20 overs after winning the toss and the Falcons chased the target in just 15 overs with the loss of five wickets. Kamindu Mendis (44) scored the most runs for the Falcons with four fours and two sixes.
Carlos Brathwaite picked 4/14 for Falcons and was named the Player of the Match.
