Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma has completed 10-years with the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions on Saturday (April 10), 8 years as which he has served as the captain of the franchise.

The Indian opener had joined the Mumbai Indians franchise back in 2011 while he took over the responsibility of the captaincy midway the 2013 season and went on to lead the Mumbai-based outfit to five IPL titles with the latest trophy win last year in the UAE.

To celebrate the occasion, MI shared a short video on its official Twitter handle on Saturday wherein the players and coaches are seen paying tribute to Rohit on completing 10 years with the franchise after their IPL 2021 opener loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 9 in Chennai.

Hailing the five-time IPL winning captain, MI’s key batsman Suryakumar Yadav said the right-hander always stays calm whenever the franchise is under the pump in the tournament.

Suryakumar said in the video: “When he is batting, he always takes the responsibility on his shoulders. When the team is doing well, everything falls in place, everything looks good. But when the team is under the pump, what a leader does at that time, that is very important. I have seen him at that time, he is very calm.”

On the other hand, MI’s bowling coach Shane Bond has hailed Rohit as his favorite batsman in the world to watch in the video shared by the franchise on Twitter.

Bond quoted, “He is my favorite player in the world to watch, one of the great things about the IPL is that the best players in the world play this tournament and you get to see him on a day-to-day basis. He is my favorite player just purely on the basis of how easy he makes it look.”

Meanwhile, Rohit himself said of his stint with the MI, “This is my eighth year of captaincy and all these years that I have captained, I have learned so much from different coaches and players. You meet different individuals at different points of time during a season.”

He concluded, “There are new players who come into the squad so you try and talk to them. They have different ideas, as a captain you need to give that comfort so that players are comfortable.”
