The right-arm pacer became the third Indian fast bowler to scalp 300 Test wickets on Monday.
Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has heaped praise on Ishant Sharma after the experienced lanky pacer became the third Indian pacer to reach the 300-wicket mark in Test cricket.
He achieved the latest milestone on Monday (February 8) when he dismissed England’s Dan Lawrence on day 4 of the ongoing first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai to complete his 300th wicket.
He is the third Indian fast bowler after Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan to scalp 300 Test wickets.
Overall, the 32-year-old is the sixth Indian bowler to take 300 wickets in the longest format of the game and they are Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, and Ravichandran Ashwin alongside Kapil Dev and Zaheer.
Following his latest historical achievement, Kaif took to Twitter on Monday to describe Ishant as “India's most unassuming and unsung champion” who “never gives up and never complains” of anything.
Kaif wrote on Twitter: “He never gives up, he never complains, he never lacks in intensity. Ishant Sharma is India's most unassuming, unsung champion. Please stand up and applaud his 300 Test wickets. Nation needs to acknowledge and salute this soldier.”
Noteworthy, Ishant, who missed the recent Test series in Australia, made a comeback in the home Test series against England and achieved the landmark in his 98th Test match for India.
