Former England captain and commentator Michael Vaughan is among the cricket experts who have been vocal about the talent of India’s young opening batsman Shubman Gill and now the legend has made a bold prediction about the Punjab lad in Test cricket.

Gill made his Test debut in the Boxing Day Test against Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground – where he scored 45 and 35* to play his role in Team India’s memorable 8-wicket series-leveling victory.

Having impressed all on his debut, the right-hander has yet again made his presence felt with the bat at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) as he notched up his brilliant maiden Test fifty against Australia’s intimidating bowling attack on Day 2 of the ongoing third Test.

Following his brilliant innings, many former cricketers and fans have been lauding the youngster for his composure, confidence, and batting technique and touted him as one of the best young talents in the world and the next big thing for Indian cricket.

Well on Friday, January 8, Vaughan has again showered praise on Gill, predicting the young opener is the next big thing in Test Cricket given his temperament and maturity at this age.

He wrote on Twitter: “You could argue @RealShubmanGill is the next big thing in Test Cricket ... My prediction is he is.”

Noteworthy, after the end of the second day’s play, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also lauded Gill.

He said: “I think, he is technically very sound. He has the temperament to play long innings. It's good that he got a start today, the 70-run opening partnership with Rohit. It's a good sign for India and hope he comes good in the second innings as well.”
