WATCH - Gautam Gambhir reveals why Rohit Sharma should be India's T20I captain over Virat Kohli

Gambhir wants IPL performances to be considered while deciding national captain.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has always been skeptical in his views about Indian cricket and particularly IPL. He believes that Rohit Sharma should be preferred over Virat Kohli as Team India captain based on his superficial record in the IPL.

While Sharma has led the Mumbai Indians (MI) to five title victories in the last 8 years, Virat Kohli is yet to lay his hands on the coveted IPL trophy. Kohli has also failed to win an ICC trophy whereas the MI skipper has a good captaincy record in multi-nation tournaments too.

IPL 2020: ‘Shame if Rohit Sharma doesn't get India's white-ball or just T20 captaincy’ – Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir said on a Star Sports show Cricket Connected, "If we choose players based on IPL performance to internationals then why don't we choose a captain based on IPL performance to internationals. Else, don't keep IPL has a barometer for batting as well as bowling performances as well."

He even mentioned that he believes Kohli is a good T20 captain but Rohit Sharma is better than him and that is the reason the left-hander wants Sharma to take over as India's captain in the shortest format of the game.
