After failing to make it count in the first two Tests, the stylish right-hander scored 91 on Day 1 of the series-decider.
His knock was laced with 11 classy boundaries and it also left a lasting impression on Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar, who took to Twitter and compared Pope’s batting style to England great Ian Bell.
"Been watching the 3rd Test, @OPope32 seems to have modelled his batting on @Ian_Bell His stance and footwork looks exactly the same to me," Sachin tweeted on Friday (July 24).
A day later, Bell reacted to Tendulkar’s opinion and wrote: "Who am I to argue with the great man, @sachin_rt! Hopefully, @OPope32 can kick on and score a big hundred today."
Unfortunately, Ollie Pope failed to add runs to his overnight tally on Day 2 as he was dismissed by Shannon Gabriel. Nonetheless, his knock along with the fifties from Rory Burns (57), Jos Buttler (67) and Stuart Broad (62) helped England post 369/10 on the board.
Later on, the hosts reduced West Indies to 137/6 at stumps on the second day, with veteran pacers James Anderson and Broad claiming two wickets each.
