India opener Rohit Sharma has mastered the art of piling up mammoth individual scores in white-ball cricket. He is the proud owner of the highest individual ODI score — 264 (against Sri Lanka in 2014) and is the only batsman in the history of cricket to have smashed three ODI double tons and four Twenty20 international centuries.

On Saturday (May 2), Rohit recalled a T20I game against Sri Lanka in December 2017, where he felt he could have scored the first-ever double hundred in the shortest format of the game.

During that T20I match held in Indore, Sharma notched up the three-figure mark in just 35 balls. He shared a whirlwind opening stand of 165 with KL Rahul before being dismissed on 43-ball 118 in the 13th over.

"In that game I had a good chance to maybe make 200 also. When I got out there were still more than 9 overs (seven) left. So it was a good chance but fine, 35-ball 100 -- I will take that," Rohit said during a live online interaction with fans of his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians.

Riding on Rohit Sharma’s blazing hundred and Rahul’s 49-ball 89, India had posted a daunting 260/5 in 20 overs.

Chasing the target, Sri Lanka got bundled out for 172 in 17.2 overs with Yuzvendra Chahal (4/52) Kuldeep Yadav (3/52) doing the bulk of the damage with the ball.
