India’s young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has on Friday (May 1) heaped praise on MS Dhoni, saying the former captain always helps him both on and off the field.

Pant, who is seen as one of the future stars of Indian cricket, took part in an Instagram Live session conducted by Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals where he picked Dhoni as his "favorite batting partner".

He also said the legendary captain is like a mentor to him.

During the live session, Pant said: “He is like a mentor to me. He helps me on and off the field. He gives me hints and tries that I figure things out myself so that I do not become dependent on him but he also does not just back off from it.”

He added, “Although my favorite batting partner is Mahi Bhai, we get very few chances to bat together. When Mahi Bhai is there, everything feels sorted out as you just have to follow his plan.”

Meanwhile, the young gun also said during the interaction that Indian skipper Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, and Yuvraj Singh also helped him a lot.

Pant signed off by saying, “There is Virat, Rohit, whenever you bat alongside seniors, it is a different experience. Later on, in my career, I was helped a lot by Yuvraj Singh.”
