Virat Kohli will be in action for RCB in IPL 2026 that begins on March 28.
Virat Kohli will be remembered as one of the all-time best batters in the world across formats. Despite his strong technical style, Kohli succeeded in the T20 format as well, both for India and in the Indian Premier League.
While he began as a solid no. 3 batter in T20Is and also for RCB, he gradually moved to the opening role for both teams in the shortest format and, as an opener, has achieved his T20 World Cup and IPL dreams.
Kohli won the T20 World Cup in 2024 and was the Player of the Final, and also won the IPL in 2025 for RCB.
But what if he was asked to name the best T20I opener? RCB did exactly that in a recent conversation for the IPL 2026 season.
He played a game called This or That, in which he was given two options and had to choose one each time. For example, he began by selecting Adam Gilchrist over Sunil Narine, and the next comparison was between Gilchrist and another player. Finally, Kohli chose Chris Gayle over Rohit Sharma, his former RCB partner.
It was intriguing to see Kohli repeatedly confirm in the video that the comparison was exclusively about T20I cricket. Rohit would not top Gayle as a T20I opener, but in ODIs, Kohli would certainly rank him among the best.
The same is true for Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli's idol, who he ranked lower than Virender Sehwag simply because Tendulkar played T20Is less frequently than his famed ODI and Test exploits.
