Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced on Monday that each member of Pakistan's U19 Asia Cup-winning squad will receive a special cash prize of 10 million rupees. Sharif announced at a reception for the team and officials in Islamabad, where he complimented their work.
Sarfaraz Ahmed, the team's mentor and manager, told the media following the reception that the Prime Minister had announced a cash incentive of 10 million rupees (about USD 36,000) for each player.
Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), described the triumph as a watershed moment in Pakistani cricket history. Junior cricket is generally overlooked in the country, but the Under-19 team's victory over India prompted a joyful reception at the airport.
Naqvi also offered cash incentives of PKR 5 million for each junior team member, an unusual gesture in Pakistani cricket.
