India women's team refused to take Asia Cup 2026 trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, ACC and PCB chief.
However, the drama began after the Asia Cup 2026 final concluded, as, like the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup tournament, the winning Indian team refused to receive the winner’s medals and the Asia Cup trophy from ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief and Pakistan’s interior minister.
Indian women’s players remained in the dressing room as the presentation ceremony was delayed for more than 50 minutes. Sri Lanka women’s players received their runners-up medals and cheque from Naqvi, but the Indian team didn’t.
After waiting for a long time for a solution and seeing that the Indian women’s team was not interested in taking the medals and trophy from him, Mohsin Naqvi was seen storming off the podium and leaving the venue. He was seen leaving in his vehicle as well.
Meanwhile, Naqvi also faced huge embarrassment from fans in the stadium. The Indian fans loudly shouted “Trophy chor, trophy chor” at Mohsin Naqvi, while they waited for the presentation ceremony.
This wasn’t the first time the Indian team refused to take medals and trophies from Mohsin Naqvi. The Indian men’s team, which won the Asia Cup in 2025 in Dubai by defeating Pakistan in the final, also refused to be felicitated by Naqvi.
There was a huge commotion then, and Naqvi was enraged, storming off the podium and carrying the Asia Cup trophy with him. Instead, the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian outfit conducted an impromptu celebration on the dais without the physical prize.
The Indian team still hasn’t gotten the Men’s Asia Cup trophy, which sits in the ACC office in Dubai.
Since the terror assault in Pahalgam last year and the ensuing Operation Sindoor, India's and Pakistan's diplomatic ties have been blocked. In Asian or international events organized by the ICC, players from both teams—men and women—now adhere to a no-handshake guideline.
