India women won their 8th Women's Asia Cup title in all.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief and ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was snubbed once again by the Indian contingent as the Indian Women’s team refused to take their medals and the Asia Cup 2026 trophy after defeating Sri Lanka in the final on September 13 in Dubai.
Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to bat first. Smriti Mandhana made 59, and Shafali Verma smashed 68 off 39 balls, adding 129 runs for the first wicket inside 13 overs. Richa Ghosh (17), Harmanpreet Kaur (14), and teenager G. Kamalini (15*) propelled India to 183/5 in 20 overs.
In response, Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu gave a flying start to their chase with 36 runs, while Vishmi Gunaratne made 20 runs. Once the Sri Lanka skipper was dismissed by Deepti Sharma, they continued to lose wickets, with only Nilakshi Silva (22) showing some resistance.
Sri Lanka women were bowled out for 111 on the last ball of the 20th over as India won the final by 72 runs. Shree Charani with 4/20 and Deepti Sharma with 3/19 were the best bowlers for India.
As the Asia Cup 2026 champions, India waited for the presentation ceremony to begin; they engaged in chat with BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla.
Sri Lankan players received their runners-up medal on the podium, and captain Chamari Athapaththu received the runners-up cheque from Mohsin Naqvi, the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
However, there was no sign of the Indian team moving forward to collect their medals and trophy. This situation was similar to what happened after the 2025 men's Asia Cup final. India had defeated Pakistan in the final, also in Dubai, but didn’t accept their medals, the cheque, and the Asia Cup trophy from Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
Naqvi had waited for the Indian team to come to take the accolades, but after the Indian team refused, he left the venue with the Asia Cup trophy, which remains in the ACC office to date.
Similarly, Mohsin Naqvi was snubbed by the Indian women’s team, and he was seen waiting for them on the podium. However, once it became clear that they would not come to take the trophy from his hands, Naqvi quickly left the stadium and the venue.
