Team India will tour Sri Lanka for 3 ODIs and T20Is each next month.
The limited-overs series, comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is, will be held in Colombo from July 13 to July 25.
While the legendary Rahul Dravid will perform the role of head coach during the tour, T Dilip and Paras Mhambrey will be assisting him as fielding and bowling coaches respectively, Cricbuzz reported on Sunday (June 13).
The report further says that Dilip’s appointment has come as a surprise to many. He is a fielding coach of Hyderabad Ranji team and also had a stint with India ‘A’. In 2019, Dilip too was interviewed for a position in the national side as a support staff and MSK Prasad-led selection committee had rated his coaching skills very highly.
According to the report, Dhawan and company will start a 14-day quarantine in India from Monday (June 14).
After arriving in Colombo, the Indian team will have to serve 3 days of hard quarantine followed by 3 days of soft isolation before being allowed to resume training, a source from SLC confirmed to Cricbuzz.
It is also learnt that Dravid wanted the players to have some sort of practice under their belt, starting at least a week prior to the first game. While there will be no practice matches, SLC and BCCI have arranged facilities for intra-squad games.
Cricbuzz also reports that BCCI has relaxed some of the tough fitness benchmarks like the Yo-Yo test and 2 km run keeping in mind the COVID-19 situation and prevailing Lockdown in the country. In the past, the Yo-Yo test has proven to be a falling for many, including the likes of Varun Chakravarthy and Sanju Samson, who are part of the squad for Sri Lanka tour.
