Team India continued their domination over West Indies in the ongoing T20I series as they claimed a series-clinching 2-0 lead with an eight-run victory in the second T20I at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Friday (February 18).

Invited to bat first, the hosts posted 186/5 in their stipulated 20 overs. Rishabh Pant (52* off 28 balls) and Virat Kohli (52 off 41 balls) starred with the bat, playing a knock of 52 runs each. Venkatesh Iyer also played a brilliant cameo of 18-ball 33.

Roston Chase was the stand-out bowler for the West Indies, claiming three wickets by conceding 25 runs in his four overs.

In reply, the tourists lost Kyle Mayers (9) cheaply while his opening partner Brandon King managed to score 22 off 30 balls. However, the duo of Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell added 100 runs for the third wicket to put West Indies in a fighting position.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar broke the partnership by removing Pooran on 41-ball 62 in the 18th over. The India pacer conceded only four runs in the penultimate over to put the visitors in driver’s seat.

Needing 25 runs in the last over, Powell (68* off 36 balls) slammed Harshal Patel for a couple of sixes but West Indies eventually ended with 178/3 in their 20 overs.

For India, Bhuvneshwar (1-29) and the leg-spin duo of Ravi Bishnoi (1-30) and Yuzvendra Chahal (1-31) returned with impressive figures.

For their stellar showing with the ball, Indian bowlers garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
