IND v WI 2022: WATCH - KL Rahul must work on his running between the wickets - Virender Sehwag

KL Rahul ran himself out in the second ODI against West Indies in Ahmedabad.

Virender Sehwag on Thursday (10th February) said KL Rahul must work on his running between the wickets. He feels that had there been no mix-up in the second ODI against West Indies in Ahmedabad, the Indian vice-captain could’ve scored big runs.

Team India had a not so good outing with the bat in the second ODI against West Indies. Asked to bat first, the Rohit Sharma-led side was reduced to 43/3. However batting at No.4, KL Rahul along with Suryakumar Yadav steadied the Indian ship and stitched an important 91 runs partnership.

While Yadav scored 64 runs, Rahul’s knock of 49 runs ended disappointingly as he had a mixup with the former and found himself back in the hut. The duo’s contribution helped India post a total of 237 runs on the board.

Defending the target, pacer Prasidh Krishna starred with the ball for his side and took four wickets for just 12 runs to help his team win the match by 44 runs and bundled out the West Indies for 190 runs.

Speaking in a video posted on his social media accounts, Virender Sehwag lauded the partnership between KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav. He pointed out that the Indian vice-captain could’ve gone on to score big runs if he wasn’t run out.

"KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav stitched an important partnership after the early blows. Rahul played well and could have gone on to score big runs, if not for the runout," Virender Sehwag said.

Sehwag talked about Rahul’s run out, saying that there was an easy chance of a double but the batter stopped in the middle. He said that the Indian white-ball vice-captain should work on his running between the wickets and shouldn’t repeat the mistakes he made in Punjab Kings.

"There was an easy chance of a double, but he stopped in the middle, which caused the dismissal. He must work on his running between the wickets… shouldn't repeat mistakes he made in Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings)," he said.

Virender Sehwag was surprised to see Rishabh Pant opening the innings and recalled that many were surprised when he and Rohit Sharma opened the batting.

He added that Pant can be dangerous batting up the order if he establishes himself at the position in white-ball cricket.

"I was surprised to see Rishabh Pant open. But many were surprised when I was promoted to the opening spot from the middle-order and also when Rohit Sharma was. Both of us ultimately succeeded as openers and Pant can be very dangerous if he is able to establish himself at that position in white-ball cricket," he said.
