India and West Indies will play the three-match ODI series in Ahmedabad.
Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has named his India XI for the first ODI against West Indies. The match is scheduled to be played on Sunday (February 6), at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Jaffer named captain Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal for the opening spot, with Virat Kohli batting at three. Rohit had missed the bilateral series against South Africa due to an injury and KL Rahul led India in the ODI series.
The ex-India cricketer sees the wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant at the number four spot. Suryakumar Yadav fits in at five in Jaffer's India XI, followed by all-rounder Washington Sundar.
Pacers Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur, who are handy with the bat, were also included in the playing eleven by Jaffer. He added Mohammed Siraj as another pacer, along with two spinners, Ravi Bishnoi and Yuzvendra Chahal.
Kuldeep Yadav is also named in the squad, but Jaffer went ahead with youngster Ravi Bishnoi.
Earlier, there was a COVID-19 outbreak in the Indian cricket team as four players -- openers Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad, middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer and net bowler Navdeep Saini-- tested positive for the virus during mandatory quarantine.
Here’s Wasim Jaffer’s India XI for 1st ODI vs WI: Rohit Sharma (C), Mayank Agarwal, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal.
