India chased down Sri Lanka's 183/5 with 17 balls to spare.
Asked to bat first, Sri Lanka posted a massive 183/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Pathum Nissanka starred with the bat, scoring 75 off 53 balls while Dasun Shanaka (47* off 19 balls) and Danushka Gunathilaka (38 off 29 balls) also made significant contributions.
Jasprit Bumrah (1-24) and Yuzvendra Chahal (1-27) returned with impressive figures with the ball as other Indian bowlers proved expensive on the day.
In reply, the hosts lost captain Rohit Sharma (1) and Ishan Kishan (16) cheaply. However, the duo of Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson turned the match on its head with an 84-run stand for the third wicket.
In particular, Iyer was severe on the Lankan bowlers as he notched up his half-century off 30 deliveries. Samson too played the role of second fiddle perfectly, scoring 39 off 25 balls before getting out.
After Samson’s dismissal, Ravindra Jadeja arrived in the middle and he blasted the Sri Lankan bowlers to all parts of the ground. The southpaw shared an unbroken 58-run partnership with Iyer to take India over the line with 17 balls to spare.
While Iyer remained unbeaten on 74 off 44 balls (6 fours and 4 sixes), Jadeja finished with 45* off 18 balls (7 fours and 1 six).
For their stellar showing in the chase, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, and Ravindra Jadeja garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
