India won the second T20I by 16 runs despite scoring 237 runs batting first.
Rohit Sharma didn’t have a good day with the umpires during the second T20I between India and South Africa which was played at the Barsapara cricket ground in Guwahati on October 2, 2022. India won the match by 16 runs and pocketed the series 2-0 with one more match to go.
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to field first this time.
His decision backfired as Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul took the attack to South African bowlers adding 96 runs for the opening wicket with Rahul making 57 in 28 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes and Rohit making 43 in 37 balls with 7 fours and 1 six.
India managed to make 237/3 as Suryakumar Yadav smashed 61 in 22 balls, and Virat Kohli made 49* in 28 balls, with even Dinesh Karthik making 17* in 7 balls.
Despite losing three early wickets of Bavuma and Russouw for ducks and Aiden Markram for 33, South Africa fought back valiantly as Quinton de Kock (69*) and David Miller’s brutal 106* in 47 balls took Proteas to 221/3.
Indian bowlers were hammered badly as Arshdeep went for 62 runs in his 4 overs and Akshar gave 53 runs in his quota.
During India’s batting, Rohit Sharma was furious at the umpire during the second over of the innings. Wayne Parnell was bowled one ball down the leg side. It neither touched the bat nor the pad and even then, the umpire didn’t call a wide.
Rohit, couldn’t stop himself to express his frustration as he stared at the umpire and raised his arms himself, seemingly urging the umpire to call it a wide delivery. When the umpire didn’t budge, he screamed in anger and mockingly signaled for a DRS review for the wide. The ultra-edge then confirmed that there was no edge and it should have been adjudged as a wide ball.
