India beat South Africa by 16 runs to take 2-0 lead in the series.
India defeated South Africa in a high-scoring clash at Guwahati on Sunday (October 2) to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. This was the first-ever T20I series victory for India at home against South Africa.
Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bowl first hoping for the dew factor to kick in later. Rohit Sharma (43) and KL Rahul (57) added 96 runs for the first wicket in 9.5 overs, and there on Virat Kohli (49*), Suryakumar Yadav (61) and Dinesh Karthik (17*) plundered runs from both ends, particularly in the last five overs.
India finished with 237/3 on the board and set a near impossible target for South Africa. At the start of the final over, Kohli was 49* and in sight of a fifty but Karthik couldn't get him back on strike as he was searching for the boundaries. Eventually, India got 18 off the over bowled by Kagiso Rabada.
Karthik came over to ask Kohli if he should look for a single, which the latter firmly denied as he told the wicketkeeper-batter to keep going for the big hits and get as many runs as possible for the team.
BCCI shared a video clip of the moment where the selflessness displayed by Virat helped India get some extra runs on the board.
India won the game by 16 runs to secure the series despite David Miller smashing 106* in 47 balls, while Quinton de Kock remained unbeaten after a laborious innings of 69* in 48 balls.
The final match will be played in Indore on Tuesday.
