IND v AFG 2026: India squad for one-off Test against Afghanistan announced

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has, on May 19, 2026, announced the Team India squad for the one-off test against Afghanistan. This one-off game will be played at the New Chandigarh Stadium from June 6 onwards. The two teams will also play three ODI series as well.

This will be the second Test match between India and Afghanistan, and the first since 2018. It will also be the first Test match played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.

The batting of the Indian team remained mostly the same, with Shubman Gill leading the way, with Yashasvi Jaiswal as the opener, and with KL Rahul as his partner at the top.

Rahul has also been named as the official vice-captain of the Indian Test team. Devdutt Padikkal has been included in the side, as well as Sai Sudharsan, to strengthen the middle order.

Rishabh Pant will be the first-choice wicketkeeper, with Dhruv Jurel as the backup. Coming to the all-rounders, Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy were included. Kuldeep Yadav has been named in the squad for his left-arm wrist spin.

Two big changes were seen as expereinced spine all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel were not included in the Test squad.

With Jasprit Bumrah rested for this one-off Test, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna will lead the Indian pace attack. Along with the settled names, the BCCI has taken a punt on several new faces.

Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey have been named as the two uncapped spinners. Along with Dubey and Suthar, pacer Gurnoor Brar has also received his maiden India Test call-up.
