Veteran India opener Rohit Sharma is all set to check into the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru on June 8 for a fitness evaluation ahead of the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, TOI reported.

While Rohit has been named in India’s 15-member ODI squad for the Afghanistan series, his final inclusion is "subject to fitness clearance".

Rohit suffered a hamstring injury while playing for Mumbai Indians (MI) during the recently concluded IPL 2026, which sidelined him for several games and forced him into an "Impact Player" role on return.

“Yes, Rohit is supposed to report to the CoE on June 8. He should be there for three days and has a few sessions lined up, including batting under lights on one ground. He will then join the Indian team in Dharamshala on June 11, two days ahead of the first ODI against Afghanistan on June 13,” TOI quoted a source as saying.

The report also claims that batting stalwart Virat Kohli is likely to remain out of action for at least next six weeks due to a hamstring injury.

Kohli's sustained the injury during the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad, where he pushed through the pain to hit a match-winning 75* and secure RCB's second consecutive title.

This not only rules him out of the Afghanistan series but also put his participation in the three-match ODI series against England, slated to begin on July 14 in Birmingham, in jeopardy.

"He has a hamstring tear. The injury won't require surgery. It will take about six weeks of healing time, which will also involve rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He tele-consulted renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr Dinshaw Pardiwalla (at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai), who reviewed his MRI scans," a source tracking developments told TOI.
