Arshdeep was highly impressive in his T20I debut game.
Former Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan on Saturday (16th July) said that he’s expecting India to hand an ODI debut to Arshdeep Singh as then they can make use of the swing.
The ongoing three-match ODI series between England and India is evenly poised at the moment with both teams having a win each to their name. It has all come down to the series decider that will take place at Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday (17th July).
While it was India, who crushed the hosts by 10 wickets in the first game, England came back strongly and dominated the visitors in the second game to level the series.
Talking about Arshdeep, the Punjab pacer was highly impressive in his debut game for India in the T20I series. The left-arm seamer troubled the English batters with his swing and made them look clueless. His first over in international cricket was a maiden as he returned with the figures of 2/18 to make many applaud him.

After that, he didn’t feature in the two T20Is after that as he wasn’t that part of the squad. The pacer, however, has been part of the ODI squad and can be in line for his 50-over debut as well.
Since India played all ‘hit the deck’ bowlers in Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Prasidh in the first two games, Arshdeep, who is a natural swinger of the ball, can provide a different dimension to them.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Zaheer Khan said that although India has got their balance right, they might make a change. He feels that Prasidh might make way for Arshdeep as the left-hander can swing the ball and that’s the only change he’s expecting.
“From India’s side, I don’t expect many changes. They have been playing two spinners, Hardik Pandya bowling, so they have got their balance sorted. They might debate around Arshdeep Singh or maybe Prasidh Krishna making way for him. If we have to make use of the swing. So, that’s the only change I am expecting. Other than that, I am not expecting any changes," Zaheer Khan said.
Arshdeep has also been named in the squad for both ODI and T20I series against West Indies, beginning 22nd July. It remains to be seen how management makes use of this exciting prospect.
