Tamim played 78 T20Is for Bangladesh, having scored 1758 runs.
In the latest development, premier Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal announced his retirement from the T20Is. The southpaw took to his official Facebook account and made the announcement.
"Please consider me retired from T20Is from today. Thank you everyone," Tamim Iqbal wrote.
Tamim’s decision to call time on his career came after Bangladesh white-washed West Indies in the three-match series on Saturday (18th July). The ODI skipper had a staggering series as he scored 117 runs from the three games he played and was also awarded Player of the Series.

Although the left-hander played his last T20I in March 2020, the void left by him will be complex for Bangladesh to fill as he has played a vital role in his side’s success over the years.
Tamim made his debut in T20Is way back in September 2007 at the age of 18 years against Kenya. He represented the nation in 78 T20Is, having scored 1758 runs, and was the first Bangladeshi batter to hit a century in T20Is, and the only one thus far.
Tamim, who took a break from T20Is in January, will continue to play for the side in Tests and ODIs. He is regarded as one of the best openers to have come out of Bangladesh, having scored 5082 runs in red-ball format and 7943 runs in ODIs.
