Team India registered a thumping 49-run victory over England in the second T20I at Edgbaston on Saturday (July 9) to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Asked to bat first, the visitors posted 170/8 on the board on the back of Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten 46 off 29 balls. Opening the innings, Rohit Sharma (31) and Rishabh Pant (26) also made handy contributions with the bat.

Richard Gleeson was the stand-out bowler for England as he removed India’s top three and conceded only 15 runs in his four overs. Chris Jordan also returned with impressive figures of 4 for 27 in his four overs.

Defending the total, Indian bowlers restricted the home team to 121 all-out in 17 overs. For India, seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar starred with the ball, claiming three wickets by conceding only 15 runs in his three overs. Jasprit Bumrah (2-10) and Yuzvendra Chahal (2-10) picked two scalps each while Harshal Patel (1-34) and Hardik Pandya (1-29) took wicket apiece.

Speaking after the game, India skipper Rohit Sharma lauded Ravindra Jadeja’s knock, calling it a “brilliant one under pressure.”

“We know how good they are as a team, not just in England but everywhere they go. When you win games there is confidence in the group and it is important how the boys feel. I really wanted to see how we perform after a win and challenge us as a group,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation.

“Brilliant knock under pressure. We wanted someone to bat through and get us a score, Jadeja had scored a hundred here and he carried on from there. He was calm and finished it well towards the end,” he added.

The third and final T20I of the series will take place on Sunday (July 10) at Trent Bridge.

“We look forward to another game tomorrow. We wanted to give guys sitting on the bench a chance, I will go back and speak to the coach about that. We need to keep ticking the boxes and move forward,” Rohit concluded.
