Indian team received a huge shock ahead of the upcoming rescheduled fifth Test against England which begins on July 1 as it was reported that ace opener and captain Rohit Sharma will miss the important encounter after he had tested positive for Covid-19.

This happened during the warm-up match between India and Leicestershire after Rohit didn’t turn up for the third and fourth day’s play in Grace Road ground. Jasprit Bumrah captained the India side in his stead and later it was revealed that Rohit was in isolation in the hotel room after testing positive for Covid-19.

It was reported that Rohit Sharma will be tested again on Wednesday for the virus and if found negative in both the tests, which would be conducted in the morning and evening, he will be cleared to play for India.

However, as per ANI reports, Rohit Sharma will not be playing for India in the important fifth Test against England as he is not expected to recover in time for the match which begins on Friday.

Jasprit Bumrah is most likely to be named captain in Rohit’s absence and he was told about the same in the team meeting, as well.

Mayank Agarwal has been called up by the Indian team management as a backup of Rohit Sharma and now it seems all but evident that Mayank will open the innings alongside Shubman Gill in the rescheduled Test.

India currently leads the series 2-1 and needs a draw or win in the upcoming Test match to pocket the series, which will be their fourth series win in England.
