The fifth Test match between India and England have been cancelled due to fears of a further increase in the COVID-19 cases in the visiting camp. Earlier, the Indian support staff had tested positive during the fourth Test and they are currently in isolation.

The final Test was scheduled to be played at Old Trafford in Manchester from Friday (September 10). India had taken a lead of 2-1 in the series after winning the Oval Test.

Amid criticism of BCCI, former India batsman Wasim Jaffer reminded everyone of the England and Wales Cricket Board's decision to cancel the South Africa tour after the COVID-19 outbreak last year.

ECB had said that the tour was called off "to ensure mental and physical health and welfare of players from both teams".

"England were within their rights back then and so are India now. If anything India honored their commitment and completed the Oval test despite the entire coaching staff getting positive during the game. #ENGvsIND #perspective," tweeted Jaffer on Twitter.

Indian players who are part of the Indian Premier League will fly to UAE to join their respective franchises after a negative COVID-19 test result.
