KL Rahul has been in great form and has already scored 244 runs including a fifty and a century in the first two matches of the ongoing five-Test series against England.

The opener won the Player-of-the-Match award in the second Test for his knock of 129 runs in the first innings which laid the foundation for an incredible win at Lord’s to give India a 1-0 lead in the series.

India’s fielding coach, R Sridhar, opened up about Rahul’s performance and said that the opener had prepared for 40-50 days prior to the series.

"Rahul was the fourth opener going into the series, but his preparation has been extraordinary. I have been feeding him a lot of throw-downs," R Sridhar said on R Ashwin’s YouTube channel.

"How to play, the bat angles, the contact points. He has analysed all these and had a good 40-50 days of practice. That's why he is batting the way he is batting," he said.

The former left-arm spinner said that it is not easy to open in England and compared Rahul to English openers.

"He has found some ways to score runs in England as an opener, even back in 2018 where he scored a 100 at The Oval. Not many openers succeed in England. Even the English openers average less than 35. It all boils down to preparation and wanting to play Test cricket again,” he added.

The third Test begins on 25 August at Headingly, Leeds.
