Shardul Thakur won't be playing the second Test against England at Lord's cricket ground.
India's pacer Shardul Thakur has been ruled out ahead of the second Test against England at the Lord’s. India skipper Virat Kohli confirmed during a press conference on Wednesday (August 11) that Thakur has a left hamstring injury and will only be in contention for the third Test.
Former India batsman Wasim Jaffer took to Twitter after the news of Shardul's injury. He was disappointed to find out the Indian speedster won't be playing at Lord's.
Shardul is called as 'Lord Shardul' by the fans on social media and Jaffer wrote that he missed out on playing at a ground named after him. "It's sad if Shardul Thakur misses the Lord's Test. After all not often cricketers get to play in a stadium named after them???????? #ENGvIND," he wrote.
In the first Test, Thakur picked up four wickets, two in each innings. He later wasn't looking comfortable in the second innings where he bowled only 13 overs.
During the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021), Shardul was asked about being called Lord, to which he replied, "Everywhere I see or someone keeps sending me on the Whatsapp, they say, 'Lord Shardul Thakur'. I seriously don't know where did that come from (chuckling).
"In a way that's good that people are appreciating so much. They are loving me, they are loving my performances," he added.
