The 2023 edition of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup came to an end on Sunday (November 19), with Australia defeating India in the final to lift the coveted trophy for a record-extending sixth time.

After this triumph, a picture of Mitchell Marsh went viral on social media, in which the Australian all-rounder was seen putting his feet on the Cricket World Cup trophy.

Reacting to the photo, India pacer Mohammad Shami said he was hurt to see the way Marsh celebrated the World Cup win in the dressing room.

"I am hurt. The trophy for which all the teams in the world fight, the trophy which you want to lift over your head, keeping a foot on that trophy did not make me happy," Shami told reporters on Thursday (November 23).

However, Mitchell Marsh played down the celebration after arriving in Melbourne earlier this week.

“It’s got a bit of legs that photo, hasn’t it? Pardon the pun,” Marsh quipped.

The all-rounder said he wasn’t aware of the outrage that his pose created. “Am I? I haven’t seen a lot, but there you go,” he stated.

India were the most dominant side in the showpiece tournament, reaching the final without losing a match. However, the Aussies completely outplayed the hosts in the title clash.

Opting to bowl first on a slow pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Australia restricted India to a below-par 240/10 in 50 overs. The pace trio of Mitchell Starc (3-55), Pat Cummins (2-34) and Josh Hazlewood (2-6) picked up seven wickets among them.

In reply, the Aussies were in a spot of bother at 47/3 but the duo of Travis Head (137 off 120) and Marnus Labuschagne (58* off 110) added 192 runs for the fourth wicket to seal the deal in 43 overs.
