Indian team was outplayed by Australia in the World Cup 2023 final at the Narendra Mod Stadium.
The stadium was jam-packed for the title clash as the passionate fans, dressed in blue, came out to support the Indian team and hope to see them lift the coveted trophy.
However, Rohit Sharma’s men were totally outplayed by the Aussies, which led to crowd turning unruly.
In fact, netizens slammed the crowd's silence in the match and accused the spectators of disrespecting the Australian team as well as the match officials.
The fans present at the venue were also criticised for not lifting the spirits of Team India when they needed it the most.
Apparently, many fans vacated the stadium early after realising that the Indian team won’t win the final.
After the game, Australian skipper Pat Cummins said he was happy that his team managed to silence the capacity crowd.
"It was awesome, I was pretty happy that they (the crowd) were silent for a lot of the bowling innings. A couple of times, they got loud and it was really loud. But fantastic, the passion in India is unrivalled around the world. You look around and it is a pretty special moment, whatever the result happens, we are never going to forget a day like today," Cummins said at the post-match presentation.
Coming to the match, Indian batters failed to make a mark on a slow pitch and managed to post only 240/10 in 50 overs after being asked to bat first.
In reply, the Aussies rode on Travis Head’s stunning hundred (137 off 120) and Marnus Labuschagne’s unbeaten half-century (58 off 110) to overhaul the target in 43 overs.
