The league stage of the ICC World Cup 2023 came to an end on November 12 with India defeating the Netherlands in the 45th match in Bengaluru by 160 runs.

India batted first and scored 410/4 with Shreyas Iyer (128*) and KL Rahul (102) shining with the bat. Then the Netherlands did well to make 250 runs but were bowled out by India with even Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma taking a wicket a piece.

With this win, India remained unbeaten in the league stage with 9 wins from 9 matches. The Netherlands finished last with 2 wins from 9 matches. They registered impressive wins over South Africa by 38 runs and Bangladesh by 87 runs. However, their lack of experience came to the fore in most of the games against bigger nations.

On Monday, the ICC shared a video of the Netherlands players getting emotional as their 2023 World Cup journey came to an end.

Roelof van der Merwe received a treasured gift of a jersey by Virat Kohli. He also exchanged a warm hug with the Indian batting superstar, and a few of the Dutch players got teary-eyed. Notably, Van der Merwe was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise in the IPL and has played with Virat Kohli in Bengaluru.

Well played, @kncbcricket”- ICC captioned the video.
