Shreyas Iyer proved his critics wrong with his batting show at the Cricket World Cup 2023.
Shreyas Iyer has been delivering consistently for Team India at the no.4 position in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, and Dinesh Karthik credited captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid for his form.
Karthik was really happy to see how Dravid and Rohit have been big supporters of Iyer, especially when the Mumbaikar wasn’t delivering at the start of the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023.
There was a lot of talk about Shreyas' fitness and his weakness for short balls, but the right-hander gave a befitting reply to his critics with his stunning performances in the Cricket World Cup 2023.
Shreyas has so far scored 421 runs in the nine matches at the ongoing CWC 2023 and smashed his maiden World Cup ton (128*) against the Netherlands on November 12. And after this stunning knock, the veteran wicketkeeper and commentator lauded Iyer.
Dinesh Karthik was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz: “Very true. The amount of clarity he's shown not only on the field but also off the field. That you know he said he's not going to be worried about the shortball has gone about doing it beautifully through this tournament.”
He added, “And consistently through his knock, the sound that came off the Willow is quite exceptional. You got to understand it as a slow pitch, but the way he's managed to constantly make sure he hits gaps and the kind of intent he showed in terms of the pacing of the innings was brilliant as well.”
Karthik further mentioned that Iyer is getting the backing from Rohit and Dravid and it has allowed him to express himself on the field in the tournament.
The commentator said, “It is extremely important. You'd rather be in a place knowing that the team backs you. And you know, you don't need to worry about your place on the side. Just go out there and do your stuff.”
He signed off by saying, “And that's going to be much better than you always, you know, worrying as to who's standing next in line to you and just come ahead of you. It's a tough place to be, as you would know in all walks of life. You want to be confident enough to go and express yourselves. And I'm very happy that Shreyas Iyer has got the backing from Rohit and Rahul.”
Notably, Iyer was adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant ton against the Netherlands.
