Pakistan’s star fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi expressed his aspiration to emulate the fearless cricketing style of the legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi and called him his hero.

On Tuesday, October 31, Shaheen etched his name in the record books by becoming the quickest fast bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets. The star pacer achieved this milestone in just his 51st match during Pakistan's ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 clash against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Afridi snared three wickets against Bangladesh to help Pakistan make a comeback in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023 with a seven-wicket win in Kolkata on Tuesday.

Shaheen Afridi was quoted by Geo Sports: “Records are meant to be broken, and it's a happy occasion that we've set records for Pakistan. Shahid Afridi always gives us tips; he is my hero. My effort is to play cricket like him.”

Shaheen admitted that Pakistan didn’t play their best cricket, and they had to suffer four losses on the trot against India, Australia, South Africa, and Afghanistan in the tournament.

However, they have now returned to their winning ways. Afridi said that Pakistan is still aiming to make it to the top four.

The pacer said, “We still aim to finish in the top four. Our effort today was to finish the match quickly and improve the net run-rate. We didn't perform well in the last few matches as a team; there were some costly errors. Some catches were dropped, and better fielding could have led to better results.”
