Danish Kaneria launched a scathing attack on the PCB for team's poor show at CWC 2023.
Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria launched a scathing attack on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for "downgrading" the spirit of Pakistani cricketers at the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
He has shed light on recent developments in Pakistan cricket, where an alleged screenshot of a WhatsApp chat of Babar Azam was leaked with the alleged permission of PCB chief Zaka Ashraf, ultimately leading to Inzamam-ul-Haq's resignation from his role as the national chief selector.
Kaneria also highlighted that Afghanistan continues its meteoric rise in the cricketing world with a string of victories at the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023, whereas Pakistan seems mired in the quagmire of "geopolitics".
Danish Kaneria wrote on X: “While Team Afghanistan is focusing more on cricket and less on politics, Team Pakistan is focused less on cricket and more on geopolitics. @TheRealPCB is downgrading the morale of its cricketers by constantly issuing removal warnings to the captain in case of poor performance. This is happening when team selection is already in question.”
He added, “Babar Azam's private chats have been leaked and Inzamam-ul-haq has stepped down as chief selector after his alleged involvement in player management company. Pakistan team is going through a worse phase. It is time for some major changes in PCB as well as the team.”
Notably, Pakistan kicked off its World Cup 2023 campaign with back-to-back wins over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka, but then they went on to suffer four successive defeats at the CWC 2023.
The defeats against India, Australia, New Zealand, and Afghanistan heavily dented their hopes of making it to the semifinals of the World Cup 2023.
