Mohammad Shami became the first Indian to take two five-wicket hauls in Cricket World Cups.
Mohammed Siraj gave India an early wicket, getting Devon Conway for a duck and then Mohammad Shami got rid of Will Young off his first ball in his ongoing CWC 2023. At 19/2, young Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell got together and put up a 159-run partnership for the third wicket. They were also helped by some poor Indian fielding and catching as well.
Ravindra was dismissed for 75 by Mohammad Shami and then Kuldeep Yadav got rid of Kiwi captain Tom Latham for 5 runs. Kuldeep Yadav also dismissed the dangerous Glenn Phillips for 23 runs. But Daryl Mitchell was the man of the hour for New Zealand. He scored 130 with 9 fours and 5 sixes.
Mohammad Shami, who replaced Shardul Thakur in the playing XI, proved to be a huge positive for the Men in Blue as he picked 5/54 in his 10 overs. He picked the wickets of Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner, and Matt Henry.
With this fifer, Mohammad Shami became the first Indian bowler to take two five-wicket hauls in Cricket World Cups. This was also his third fifer in ODI career.
New Zealand could manage 273 runs in 50 overs as India pulled back their scoring rate nicely towards the end. Apart from Shami, Kuldeep Yadav also picked 2 wickets.
Mohammad Shami was praised by the cricket fraternity on X for his terrific bowling against New Zealand.
