The incident happened during the final phase of Sri Lankan innings.
Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka got off to a brilliant start as the duo of Kusal Perera (78) and Pathum Nissanka (61) added 125 runs for the opening wicket.
However, once the opening partnership came to an end, Sri Lankan batting line-up collapsed like of cards to be bundled out for a below-par 209 in 43.3 overs.
Apart from an abysmal collapse, the final phase of the Sri Lankan innings also saw a dust storm at the venue halting the match for a brief period.
The winds were so strong that the World Cup hoardings attached to the roof of the stadium fell on the stands along with other objects. Luckily, none of them in the crowd was injured.
The camera also caught Australian cricketers Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell noticing the incident from afar with absolute shock.

Chasing the target, Australia were 112/3 after 21 overs at the time of writing this article. The five-time champions needed 98 more runs in the remaining 29 overs to register their first win in the ongoing World Cup.
