CWC 2023: Indian cricket fraternity expresses excitement as World Cup kicks off in India

The quadrennial event, featuring 10 teams, will be played across 10 venues in India.

Amid a lot of excitement, the 2023 edition of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup got underway on Thursday (October 5) with the England versus New Zealand clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The quadrennial event is scheduled to culminate on November 19, 2023. The 10 participating teams in the showpiece tournament are – Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.

Besides Ahmedabad, there are nine other venues that will stage the World Cup games and they are – Delhi, Dharamsala, Lucknow, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad.

Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium will host the first semi-final on November 15 while the second semi-final will take place at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 16. Both semi-finals have a reserve day.

The grand finale will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19, with November 20 being the reserve day.

Before the start of the global tournament, members of the Indian cricket fraternity expressed their excitement and sent best wishes to the participating teams.
