CWC 2023: BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirms free drinking water for spectators during World Cup games

Shah's announcement came hours ahead of the World Cup opener in Ahmedabad.

The 2023 edition of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup got underway on October 5. The quadrennial event, featuring 10 teams, will be played across 10 venues in India.

Ahmedabad, Delhi, Dharamsala, Lucknow, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad will host the World Cup matches.

Hours ahead of the start of the showpiece tournament, BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that fans and spectators will be provided with free mineral and packaged drinking water across all venues during the World Cup.

Taking to social media platform X, Shah wrote: “Exciting times ahead as we anticipate the first ball of @ICC @cricketworldcup 2023! I am proud to announce that we're providing FREE mineral and packaged drinking water for spectators at stadiums across India. Stay hydrated and enjoy the games! Let's create unforgettable memories during CWC 2023!"

Defending champions England will take on New Zealand in the World Cup opener at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Hosts India will begin their campaign against five-time champions Australia at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on October 8.
