Batting legend Virender Sehwag expects India skipper Rohit Sharma to finish the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 as the top run-getter.

Rohit was the top run-scorer in the 2019 edition of World Cup in England as well. The right-handed opener had amassed 648 runs from 9 innings at an average of 81 with five centuries, helping India reach the semi-finals of the showpiece tournament.

With less than 45 days remaining for the 2023 World Cup, Sehwag opined that openers will score a lot of runs in India during the marquee event and tipped Rohit to flourish.

Sehwag further said that Rohit's energy level and performance go up when the World Cup comes around.

"I think lots of openers because India has a good wicket, so openers will get more opportunities. I think if I want to pick one, I think Rohit Sharma. There are a couple of names, but I know I'm Indian and I should pick Indian, so Rohit Sharma," Sehwag said while speaking to ICC.

"I'll pick Rohit Sharma, because when World Cups comes, his energy level, his performance goes up. So I'm sure that and this time he's a captain also. So I'm sure that he will make a difference and he will get a lot of runs," he added.
